The FVCOM team provided an assistance for the ocean rescue

On December 31, 2013, a young student at Brown University missed when he kayaked around the West Island, Fairhaven. The FVCOM team was invited by Dr. Don Anderson, a senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and a volunteer for the search,  on January 5, 2014 to use the NECOFS (Northeast Coastal Ocean Forecast System) to provide the help in determining the search area. Using the Lagrangian body tracking method, the team found that the body was highly possible to be drafted across Buzzard Bay towards the Falmouth area during a 24 hour time interval.  The body was finally Penzance Point, Falmouth, an area close to the model prediction. For detail, please contact Dr. Don Anderson at WHOI or Dr. Changsheng Chen at UMASSD.
