Simulated temperature and currents

The model-simulated surface water temperature and currents for 1999. The simulation began on April 1, when the ice was melted. The initial condition for the water temperature was assumed as 2 degree C everywhere. The spatial and temporal structures of the water temperature was built due to the seasonal heat flux and winds.

Due to the reflection from the solid boundary with mismatching of the irregular coastline, the model showed some artificial oscillation in the interior.

Temperature comparison

The model simulated surface water temperature was compared with the satellite-derived surface temperature. The model did capture the basic seasonal pattern of the temperature variation, but seemed to fail to reproduce the meso-scale variation along the coast, especially for the upwelling and downwelling.
