Salinity

The salinity simulation was conducted using the 1995 GARLMER hydrographic survey. Numerical FVCOM model was run for the real time tidal forcing and river freshwater discharge by using Julian Day option. The initial conditions for salinity specified from the field measurements taken along the estuary on April 7, 1995 by Dr. Jack Blanton. The stations of salinity observation in 1995 are shown in the site map with yellow cycles and blue triangle.

The figures below are the comparison of vertical distribution of salinity between the model simulation and observation. The upper and middle figures show the model not only gives good structures of the salinity front, but also gets the right position of the front. From the lower figure, we find the simulated temporal variation of vertical distribution of salinity at the anchor station shows good agreement with the observation results.
